No direct linking. That means taking the url of an image on a site and using it on another site. Don't do that ever on this site. I will be editing signatures and avatars of people if images are direct linked from other's sites.
Why is it such a big deal? When you direct link, you steal bandwidth, with is what people pay for. When you direct link, you waste other's money.
